The Athenian School
The Athenian school is a day and boarding school located in Danville, California for grades six through twelve. The Athenian School's Asian Club is the group behind this youth action program, and consists of 15 - 20 members of all ethnicity. Their objective is to help spread awareness of Asian culture within their school by presenting informative presentations at school assemblies during Lunar New Year and the Asian Pacific Heritage month in May. The club also introduces Asian past-times such as games with the school community.
Copied below is the questionnaire from the program application filled out by the Asian Club members from the Athenian School.
Why do you want to get involved with JWOC? "The club wanted to fund raise for an organization and when we were listening to the presentation given at our school by Andrea, we were all really interested in giving back to the Cambodian community she spoke of. We are very grateful for the opportunities we have from the Athenian School including great education, relationship with the faculties and programs. Thus we want to allow for opportunities for less privileged students in Asian countries to have education. Asian Club wants to respond to the global citizenship mission statement of the Athenian School ; therefore, we want to strive to make a difference by taking part in organization that supports aiding those who are in need." What is the dollar amount of your fundraising goal? $1,200.00 How are you going to fundraise? "We are currently sell Asian food products such as Pocky sticks, Japanese Marble drinks, Hello Panda and Choco Pie every other Monday. We are also planning on organizing games to play and fund raising that way. We have received hand-made products from JWOC such as scarves, jewelry, and purses to sell."
Through all their hard work and fundraising, the Athenian School's Asian Club managed to raise their targeted goal of $1,200!! Their donation is being used to sponsor three Cambodian students through university, and we couldn't be more proud.
