TravelAid – Various Projects (August annually)
August 2009 – Clean Water and Schools Projects
In 2009, twelve students from Oxford and Cambridge spent a month at JWOC helping implement the pilot project of our Clean Water Village Approach, assisting teachers in their classes and running a month long series of morning activities for children during their school holidays. The volunteers accompanied our scholarship student Clean Water officers into Kvean Village on 4 successive weekends to assist them in the needs assessment, baseline surveys, filter and hygiene training sessions. They also helped develop some of the materials we used in these training sessions. During the week, all students were paired with JWOC teachers to assist them in their classes with ideas for activities, help with pronunciation and classroom management. Finally, they ran activities that included arts and crafts, murals, karate and sports throughout the month for up to one hundred children at a time.
Fundraising is also a large part of the TravelAid commitment to JWOC and in 2009 they were able to raise over $8,000 which was used to help three projects: Clean-Water, Schools and Scholarships.

West Point – Various Projects (June/July annually)
June 2009 – Clean Water Project
Seven West Point Cadets joined JWOC for 10 days in June 2009 and helped develop and trial the first community hygiene seminars. The cadets use this experience in the field to enhance their knowledge of capacity building and local community relations as part of their West Point Academy education. In addition to developing and trying out the first hygiene seminars in collaboration with JWOC Clean Water officers, the cadets were able to stay with local families in two villages over a total of four nights to observe water resource usage and existing hygiene practices in the villages.
