How You Can Help

We so appreciate your interest in helping JWOC. With your initial donation you will become part of the JWOC family. In Southeast Asia the family structure is an integral part of life and everyone in the family, from grandparents to cousins, plays an important role. As a donor you become a part of this family and together we can work to reach our goals solving the problems facing the communities of Southeast Asia. Learn more about the JWOC family..

As an organization JWOC strives to empower donors by showing you the problem and asking you to take an active role in the solution. From getting letters from scholarship students, to organizing fundraisers, to helping with disaster relief JWOC donors are a huge part of the solution. With that in mind we have developed our monthly priority list. This is to highlight the areas we need help with NOW, to help you know where the greatest need is so you can help fill that need and solve these problems. We hope that by keeping you informed we can get the help we need when we need it so together we can empower the communities we work in.

Priorites

March and April 2010: JWOC is very excited to announce that work has started on a new building at its Community Center location in Siem Reap. The work started on 20th February and the first phase (already funded) is scheduled to finish in the late Spring. In this new building JWOC hopes to expand the size and depth of its projects. We will be able to offer more classes to more students, increase our ability to hold educational workshops for staff and scholarship students, house a new library that will be a unique resource for local communities and offer computer classes in a purpose built computer/language lab.

For the upstairs section of the building we need to raise $25,000. That is 1,000 "bricks" at $25 per "brick". Can you help us by buying two bricks, ten bricks or even all the remaining bricks? We will recognize each and every donor to this project right here on the website. If you donate 20 bricks ($500) your name will be added to a "significant contributors" plaque once the building is complete. If you would like to donate towards this project please click here. To see pictures of the construction so far and to see how close we are to our fundraising goal, please visit our homepage.

January and February 2010: With continued growth in student number and an ever bigger variety of classes available to members of the local community, JWOC is looking for your support with its Free Classes. At the beginning of January we took on our third group of sewing students and are actively looking for sponsors for our vocational sewing classes. JWOC has also recently opened a new Art Class on Sundays and is very popular with a regular attendance of over 50 children! If you would like to donate towards JWOC Free Classes please click here. To learn more about what we do in our Free Classes Programme, please click here...

November and December 2009: JWOC is looking for new donations towards our Clean-Water Project as we continue to put our new village centered approach into place in another Cambodian village. We are also looking for new donors to fund our new students through JWOC vocational sewing courses. If you are interested to learn more please click on the links and if you would like to donate please click here or go to Donate Now.

September and October 2009: With the widespread floods caused by Typhoon Ketsana, JWOC has been supplying Emergency Relief to our local communities who have been affected. As the relief effort continues we are still looking for donations to help us help those living in and around the dirty water which poses a great risk to their health. JWOC is also now looking for new donations towards our Clean-Water Project as we begin to put our new village centered approach into place in another Cambodian village. Finally, we are looking for new donors to fund our new students through JWOC vocational sewing courses. If you are interested to learn more please click on the links and if you would like to donate please click here or go to Donate Now.

July and August 2009: As the academic year comes to a close and the new academic year approaches, JWOC is sad to say goodbye to 17 scholarship students who are graduating this year. However, we are also looking forward to giving new opportunities to students who have the ability and desire to study at University but lack the resources to do so. Therefore we are looking to sponsor a total of 21 new students in Cambodia and Laos and ask that you consider this as our most pressing current need. The Scholarship Programme is undoubtedly the glue that binds together all JWOC's projects and the volunteer time of each of our scholarship students ensures that every sponsorship has a lasting impact on both the life of the student and all those the student helps in the community.

May and June 2009: We had a fantastic Grand Opening for our new Community Center and we have added many new classes in the last month, with JWOC welcoming over 400 students a week to our Free Schools. With all the new classes and students our Classroom Wishlist is that much more important!

March and April 2009: Our new Community Center is set to open in May and to make that a reality we have a long list of things we need for the classroom and to make the Community Center property an inviting place for students. To find out more about our Community Center and see the Wish List click here...

We also have had an amazing last few months getting many donations of water wells, but we now need to shift our focus to well maintenance. While we are still accepting water well donations we are asking donors to consider our need for sustainability and help us give back clean water with our new Well Maintenance Program.

January 2008 and February 2009: Raise money for a new class of JWOC Scholarship Students. With a third of our students set to graduate we have a goal of 15 students to start university by March 2009, adding to our 45 students already enrolled. To find out more click here...

We know the problems that need to be solved, but its our donors that make it possible. Thank you to our 2009 donors...
