Extra Workshops
JWOC scholarship students occasionally have the opportunity to benefit from ad hoc workshops by visiting volunteers with particular skills or knowledge to share. Here are some examples of workshops that have been held by volunteers at JWOC:
Leonard – a former Advertising Executive and a JWOC scholarship student sponsor – held a morning workshop on advertising.
Ashley – a former TravelAid volunteer at JWOC – held a practical two hour workshop introducing students to some of the techniques associated with modern digital photography. The students were able to learn some of the theory in the classroom before getting to practice their new knowledge using some of JWOC’s digital cameras.
Jane – a retired marketing executive and a JWOC scholarship student sponsor – held workshops over the course of two weekends on Marketing Strategies and Problem Solving. She was also able to offer a wonderful opportunity to JWOC fourth year scholarship students to benefit from her experience as a professional life coach. Over the course of a month, ten students were able to have four separate sessions each with Jane to discuss their lives, goals and ambitions and how to achieve them.
West Point Cadets
– around 60 JWOC students in Cambodia and Laos were able to benefit from Self-Defense workshops held over three weekends. The Cadets were able to transfer some vital techniques for students if they find themselves in potentially dangerous situations.
Vanthai
– a JWOC scholarship student who works for an international non-governmental organization in Siem Reap – held an all day workshop on Community Mapping for 24 scholarship students.
