Community Education

All JWOC classes have built-in hours when students can learn about other issues such as health and hygiene. Teachers currently conduct seminars in hand-washing and teeth-cleaning once per course, after which all students who attend receive a gift of a toothbrush and toothpaste or a bar of soap. It is our hope that these habits learnt at JWOC will be taken home and the good hygiene messages will spread. We also use the opportunity we have with the children who study with us to raise awareness on particular days of the year such as Global Handwashing Day. On these days JWOC teachers do topic based activities such as drawing competitions and games.

In the future we hope to expand the range of issues we cover in our classes to include other topics such as litter, environmental awareness, road safety, and sexual health.
