JWOC Schools
The Problem
The public school systems in Southeast Asia continue to be plagued by poor facilities, uneducated teachers, and at their worst, rampant corruption. This can lead to dismal educational opportunities, however eager the children are to learn. With government school focusing on rote learning there is little opportunity for students to think outside the box and having fun while learning is often a distant concept.
What JWOC is Doing
JWOC sponsors and manages extracurricular schools in Cambodia and Laos to try to add to the limited educational opportunities. These schools provide free classes daily to hundreds of children and adults ranging in age from 4 to 40 years old.
The subjects taught include English, Japanese, Korean, Khmer literacy for children, computer skills and Arts and Crafts.
JWOC provides the teachers, textbooks, school supplies, and learning aids for each class so that the only thing students have to focus on is learning.
All JWOC classes are taught by JWOC Scholarship Students, helping them get experience in teaching and allowing for a supportive and reliable system for those students attending the class. Our goal is that the students we are teaching in our free schools can emulate our scholarship students and a cycle can begin.
