SoktheaHas Piseth is a 23 year-old man who teaches English at Wat Thmei Language School.  He lives 5 kilometers outside Siem Reap and drives his motorbike to school every day.

Originally from Kampong Cham Province, Piseth is the son of poor rice farmers.  He has 2 older sisters, who continue to help on the family farm.  During his childhood he sought out opportunities for education while helping his parents.  He rode his bicycle 10 kilometers to school teach day, often only having an hour of free time each night after working in the fields.

Piseth has the goal of helping the education of poor children throughout Cambodia and especially in Siem Reap Province.  He appreciates the opportunities provided by tourism in Siem Reap, and enjoys his job at a local radio station immensely.  On his free time, he helps out with JWOC’s Clean Water Project and Village Microfinance Fund program.  In his second year at Build Bright University, he continues his studies in English Literature with the hope of opening a shop in Siem Reap in the future.

He believes an education is “so very important”, acknowledging that his sisters are not able to study as he does.  He hopes JWOC will continue to help with the education of young people not only in Siem Reap, but in the rural countryside as well.
