Neang Chhoeurm is 23 years old and a third year student at Angkor University. Though born and raised in Thmal Village, Neang has lived in Siem Reap for the past four years. In his free time, he enjoys playing football, watching television, reading history about Cambodia, and surfing the Internet. Both of Neang’s parents are rice farmers in Thmal Village and he grew up with six brothers and three sisters. Though some of his siblings moved to Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, the majority of his family still resides in Thmal Village. Neang has went to school since he was three. He has lived with various relatives to continue his education this far.

Neang currently works with Journey Within Our Community’s Clean Water Project. He enjoys the projects closeness with people, especially in the countryside where locals remain relatively uneducated on the benefits of clean water. Concern Siem Reap, Neang enjoys the city’s easy access to school, and the amount of classes offered in many subjects. He desires to continue work with the Clean Water Project and would like see to progress made in Cambodia’s education system.

Neang has been a scholarship student for one year. A student at Angkor University, Neang is currently majoring in management. His desire to go to university stemmed from a wanting of a better future, good job, and enough money to help others. Since his family could not earn enough money to support Neang’s tuition, the scholarship program has helped Neang and others like him.

In the future, Neang seeks to work in management, lecture at the university, and live in Siem Reap. He would like to see better communication between villagers and NGOs in addition to enlarging Journey Within Our Community’s scholarship program.
