Dollars for Scholars University Students

Sokthea            Reach Lida, 24 years of age, comes from Siem Reap and has lived here her whole life. Her father is a taxi driver and her mother is a teacher, they both live in Siem Reap. She has 5 siblings, 4 brothers and 1 other sister, with some working and others studying. As a child she went to primary school and after sold things in the afternoon. She remembers it as being very tough and exhausting. She feels that the biggest obstacle that she had to overcome in her life was poverty.

Lida specializes in Microfinance, and chose this particular project because she believes it will help her university studies (Accounting), providing her with relevant experience for her future career. She enjoys carrying out this project because she feels that it genuinely helps poor people.

Her favorite part of Siem Reap is Phnom Kulen. She hopes to be able to spread knowledge to the different communities. Lida believes that the biggest problem in Cambodia by far is poverty, and it is precisely this problem that Lida would like to tackle.

This is the first time that Lida has the chance of having a scholarship and is currently in her first year of study. She studies Accounting and the Build Bright University. She was determined to go to university to improve her knowledge, to get a good job, to ensure a good salary but also to help poor people. What sets Lida apart from the other scholarship students is that she has taught before, thus she has experience and feels like she can contribute a lot to JWOC. The reason why she applied for a scholarship is because of the poverty in her family.

She aspires to be an accountant and to finally be able to live in the countryside.
